Sidetracking Well Reaming Technology
As oilfield development enters the middle and late stages, the number of wells idled for extended periods due to various reasons is increasing. Using sidetracking as an alternative to regeneration or adjustment wells has gained widespread favor among oil companies due to its advantages of low investment and rapid effectiveness. However, over time, the short lifespan of sidetracking wells completed using conventional technology has gradually become apparent.According to statistics, the average lifespan of sidetracking wells with 7" casing is only about two years, and that of sidetracking wells with 5.5" casing is only about one year, far shorter than the lifespan of typical production wells, which severely impacting the development of sidetracking technology.
The main reasons for the short life of sidetracked wells include:
Small annular clearance
Uncentered liner
Poor cementing quality
Since 2000, through theoretical research and field testing, a series of reaming technologies have been
developed. This has increased the annular clearance of sidetracked wells to 20-26mm, tripling the average
lifespan and resolving the bottleneck that has restricted the promotion of sidetracked wells.
